Student Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is coming!  On Monday, February 6, 2023, TTC will require all students logging into any of our college applications (Outlook 365), online learning (D2L), or TTC website (Portal), to use multifactor authentication.  For more information see the article below or our knowledge base article Multifactor Authentication Setup.
TTC Student Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
Trident Technical College is implementing added security on student accounts using Microsoft Multifactor Authentication (MFA).

So, what is Multifactor Authentication and why are we going to enforce using it?

The goal of MFA is to make it more difficult for an unauthorized person to access sensitive data.  Rather than just asking for a username and password, multifactor authentication creates a layered defense by requiring one or more additional verification methods for logging in to an application or online account, which decreases the likelihood of a successful cyber-attack.

Starting Monday, January 23, students will trigger a prompt to set up MFA when logging into any of our college applications (Outlook 365), online learning (D2L), or TTC web portal. Please sign up as soon as possible. Prompts will continue until the student enrolls or mandatory enforcement occurs on February 6, 2023. (If you are enrolled as a high school dual-credit student, you will only be challenged for MFA when you connect to TTC from outside your high school network.)


        Authentication Methods
  1. Your Username and Password will be your first method of authentication
  2. TTC recommends using the Microsoft Authenticator app on a mobile device, such as a tablet or smartphone, as the second factor.  For more information and links to tutorials about setting up multifactor authentication please check our knowledge base article (Multifactor Authentication Setup).

What's my email address?

Students: Your TTC email address is usually FirstNameLastName@my.tridenttech.edu   
(Ex. susanworks@my.tridenttech.edu)

If you have a common name your email may have numbers after your name  (Ex. susanworks12345@my.tridenttech.edu)

Note: Please be aware that there is a dot (.) between my (and) tridentech (and) edu

I’ve never logged in before, what's my password?
Your password is originally set to 'Aa' plus the last six numbers of your social security number plus '$' (Ex: Aa######$), with ###### being the last six numbers. You will be required to change this temporary password the first time you log in.

Password Change and Recovery Information

You can update your password recovery information using the Information Recovery Page once you have already signed in.

If you want to change your password for any reason you can also use the Change Password Page.

The password requirements are:

  • At least 8 characters
  • 3 different types of characters (I.E. upper case, lower case, numbers, special characters)
  • Cannot contain your name
  • You cannot reuse old passwords

Search Tips:
For better results, use phrases or additional key words instead of single words. For example, "reset my password" in place of "password" or "install Microsoft Office" in place of "office."
 
General Troubleshooting Tips:
  • Restart your computer and any devices related to the issue you're having (Wi-Fi routers, printers, etc.)
  • Try another web browser or use Private/Incognito mode  (select the three dots/lines at top right of browser window, select available option)
  • Try another computer/device
  • Some logins require full email address and some require only your username (the part of your email address before the @).   Check the login page for required information.
